Fullbore Shooting at Bisley

We shoot once a month at Bisley, the historic home of fullbore shooting in the UK. The disciplines our members shoot include:

– Historic Service Rifle — showcasing rich heritage competition, shooting at distances from 100 to 300 yds and beyond using iron-sighted vintage military rifles.

– Target Rifle (TR) — precision shooting prone at distances ranging from 300 to 1,000 yards, using aperture iron-sight rifles (.308 calibre).

– F‑Class / FTR — modern fullbore shooting with scoped rifles from rests or bipods, following ICFRA rules up to 1,000 yards.

Additionally, we compete in Oxfordshire county matches at Otmoor Range, helping members gain experience outside Bisley.

Equipment & Setup

– Historic SR: Vintage service rifles such as SMLEs, Lee-Enfields and similar, shot iron-sight at mixed distances.

– Target Rifle: Single-shot .308 rifles fitted with adjustable iron sights, shot from prone using slings, jackets, gloves, mats, spotting scopes, and scorebooks.

– F‑Class/FTR: Scoped bolt-action rifles from bipods or rested front bags; F‑Open rifles may use calibres up to 8 mm, F/TR limited to .308 or .223.

Distances & Targets

– F‑Class is shot at the same distances as TR but on smaller targets.

– Historic SR: We normally practice on the TR targets, but accept that the rifles are not as accurate. This doesn’t take away from the enjoyment though!

Bisley & the NRA

Bisley Camp: Located in Brookwood, Surrey, Bisley is the NRA’s HQ and the site of the annual Imperial Meeting, including the prestigious Royal/King’s Prize. The ranges offer long-distance shooting (Century, Stickledown, and more), zero ranges, and full logistical facilities.

– Participation in Oxfordshire county matches at Otmoor Range.

– Opportunities to attend the Imperial Meeting, Queen’s Prize, Palma Match, and fullbore events under the NRA and ICFRA.
