Lightweight Sporting Rifle and Gallery Rifle
Introduction
Lightweight Sporting Rifle (LSR) and Gallery Rifle are dynamic and engaging smallbore and centrefire shooting disciplines. Both are shot primarily at short ranges, typically 20 to 50 metres, and are ideal for those who enjoy both precision and speed challenges.
LSR involves shooting .22 calibre rifles from a standing unsupported position, making it a test of control and consistency. Gallery Rifle adds further variety, including multi-target and timed courses, often using pistol-calibre carbines like lever-action or semi-automatic rifles.
Equipment Used
- Rifles: Bolt-action or semi-automatic .22 LR for LSR; pistol-calibre underlever or semi-auto rifles for Gallery Rifle
- Sights: Iron sights or optical sights depending on class
- Shooting Positions: LSR is shot standing unsupported; Gallery Rifle may involve different shooting stages
- Calibres: .22 LR, .38/.357, .44, 9mm — depending on event

Targets and Distances
LSR is typically shot at 20 yards on precision targets. Gallery Rifle includes a variety of targets: from precision 10-ring cards to turning targets and silhouettes used in multi-target and timed matches. Distances range from 20yds to 50m and beyond, depending on venue and event.
